Marlboro RedsWelcome  to Welsh Discus Fish, my name is Tom Meaden. I have been keeping ornamental fish for over 25 years. My great passion for my aquatic buddies eventually lead me to keeping and breeding the King OF THE AQUARIUM, the Discus fish.

Discus fish are without a doubt the most graceful and elegant species I have ever had the pleasure of keeping.

The purpose of this site is to reach out to those who share the same passion as myself. I hope with the continuing development of this site, to enthuse fellow Discus fish hobbyists, and encourage others to venture into this rewarding aquatic hobby.

Please also visit us at our sister site Discus Fish Keeper, a friendly Discus Fish Forum supported by top professional Discus retailers and hobbyist Discus fish keepers.

So you’ve decided to buy a new tank and you wish to keep discus in it. So how do you mature the filters? And how long before you can add your discus stock?

STEP ONE: - SIZE IS EVERYTHING

The first thing to consider before you even buy the tank for your new discus is how big it needs to be. You will need to allow ten gallons for each discus. Also discus being a shoaling species a minimum number of at least six discus will need to be kept.

It is quite clear to me, that there are a lot of people out there, who wish to purchase their discus fish as small as 2.5”.
There is nothing wrong with that !

However, this is only the case if for one you are experienced in Discus fish keeping, and two, you fully understand that at this size they require a regular feeding regime.

In order that they might reach there full growth and potential, the regular regime of water changing and feeding must be followed.
